What AED 199 buys in a Japanese carton

TEREA Japan is the most expensive carton we sell and the only one whose flavour list needs a paragraph of explanation. AED 199 gets you 200 sticks, about AED 19.9 a pack, and a choice of 17 variants: Regular, Rich Regular, Balanced Regular, Smooth Regular, Ruby Regular, Menthol, Mint, Bright Menthol, Black Menthol, Black Purple Menthol, Purple Menthol, Yellow Menthol, Tropical Menthol, Fusion Menthol, Oasis Pearl, Shine Pearl, Sun Pearl.

Japan is the market IQOS was built for, and the domestic lineup shows it. Instead of one tobacco stick and one menthol stick with some capsules bolted on, you get three graded sub-families — five tobaccos, nine menthols, three Pearls — each tuned against the others rather than assembled independently.

That's what the premium pays for. Not a better leaf, but a finer set of steps between one stick and the next.

The Regular sub-family, explained properly

Five variants carry the word Regular: Regular, Rich Regular, Balanced Regular, Smooth Regular and Ruby Regular. They aren't five names for one blend. They're a ladder, and knowing which rung you're on saves you a wasted carton.

Regular is the reference point — medium roast, dry finish, nothing added. Rich Regular is heavier through the middle with more body, and it's the closest thing on this site to a full-flavour red cigarette. Balanced Regular rounds off the roast bite and sits between Regular and Smooth. Smooth Regular is the lightest of the four, an easy draw for the first stick of the morning or for anyone who found Kazakh Amber too much.

Ruby Regular is the odd member: tobacco with a red-berry note woven through it rather than a capsule sitting on top. It's the only sweetened stick in the group and it converts people who normally refuse fruit flavours outright.

Arriving from an Amber habit? Regular is the sideways step, Rich Regular is the upgrade.

Nine menthols, ranked by how much cold they deliver

Menthol, Mint, Bright Menthol, Black Menthol, Black Purple Menthol, Purple Menthol, Yellow Menthol, Tropical Menthol and Fusion Menthol. No other carton on this site has a cooling range this granular, and most people are surprised there's room for nine distinct steps.

Mint and Menthol are the clean baseline — cool, no fruit, closest to a menthol cigarette. Bright Menthol lifts sharper and brighter. Yellow Menthol adds a citrus edge. Purple Menthol and Black Purple Menthol layer berry over the cool, the second one across a much darker tobacco. Tropical Menthol and Fusion Menthol push furthest into fruit territory.

Black Menthol is the coldest of the nine. Standing outside a tower in Business Bay in July, the difference between Mint and Black Menthol is not a subtlety.

The three Pearls, and why they're quieter than the others

Oasis Pearl, Shine Pearl and Sun Pearl round out the carton. Oasis Pearl is creamy tropical with a medium chill, Sun Pearl is bright citrus with tropical edges, Shine Pearl is the gentlest — light, faintly sweet, closer to a scent than a flavour.

Japanese capsules are tuned with a lighter hand than the Indonesian or Uzbek ones. Where a Black Ruby announces itself immediately, a Shine Pearl works as seasoning over the tobacco underneath. If you tried a capsule stick once and found it too much like a sweet drink, this is the version of the idea worth a second attempt.

The tobacco base under all three is also better than it needs to be, which is really the point. In a lot of capsule sticks the leaf is a delivery vehicle for the flavour. Here it holds its own after the capsule fades, and the last third of the stick still tastes like tobacco rather than like a rinsed glass.

Climbing the ladder without wasting a carton

Two hundred sticks is a long time to spend with a flavour you don't like. Getting it wrong at AED 199 stings noticeably more than getting it wrong at AED 119, so it's worth being deliberate about the first order.

The approach that works: buy one Japanese carton alongside one carton you already trust. Two Japanese cartons come to AED 398, comfortably over the AED 350 line, but only order both at once if you already know which sub-family you belong to.

Pick from the family, not from the name. Tobacco smoker moving up: Rich Regular. Menthol smoker: Mint first, Black Menthol second. Curious about capsules without wanting candy: Shine Pearl. Those three cover the vast majority of first Japanese orders we deliver in Downtown, Marina and JLT.

Who shouldn't pay the premium

Plenty of people. If you smoke one flavour, every day, and have done for a year, a seventeen-variant ladder is a catalogue you'll never climb. You'd be paying AED 70 a carton over TEREA Kazakhstan for options you don't use, and the base tobacco difference on its own doesn't justify that.

Same answer if you're two weeks off cigarettes. The distinctions between Regular, Balanced and Smooth are real, but they're small, and a palate still clearing out combustion smoke won't reliably hear them. Come back in three months and they'll be obvious.

Same answer again if cold is what you're after and nothing else. Black Menthol is excellent, but TEREA Indonesia's Black Green delivers a comparable amount of ice for AED 80 less per carton.

Where the premium does pay: you already know your family, you rotate three or four flavours, and small differences between similar sticks are something you actively enjoy. That's a real type of buyer, and this is their carton. Anyone else is better served further down the price list, and we'd rather say so than sell you the expensive one twice.

Delivery across the UAE

Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman are express zones. Once an order is confirmed it reaches you in 1–3 hours, and often inside the hour in Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Barsha, Marina, JLT, Business Bay, Al Nahda and Al Nuaimiya. Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain arrive within 24 hours of confirmation.

Delivery is a flat AED 30 anywhere in the country and free once the order passes AED 350. There's no minimum — a single carton is a perfectly normal order, and plenty of the deliveries we run are exactly that.

Payment is cash on delivery, card on delivery or bank transfer. You pick when the driver is in front of you, and nothing is taken before that.

How to check your Japan order is genuine

Three checks take about ten seconds. The outer wrap should be tight factory shrink film with clean edges and no sign of re-taping. Every pack inside must carry an intact authentication code. The printing should be crisp, with the correct market text for the version you ordered.

Run those checks while the driver waits. If something looks wrong, hand the order back and pay nothing — that's the practical reason to pay on delivery instead of in advance.
